I got overexcited - Unpacking Unlocked: Jan '25

Frontier Unlocked revealed the plans for this year, and its fair to say they've got everyone very excited! So join me as I recap Elite's plan for 2025.

#1: Trailblazers

The first feature of the year is Trailblazers, which was released on Wednesday. The major feature is Colonisation! As in you can have a system of your own. See why people are excited?

It is a beta though, so things are subject to change. Like the supply of CMM Composities, which seems to have dried up in under an hour. Luckily the fine FDev folk have noticed this, and upped the restock rate for it.

So will I be colonising a system? Not yet. My plan is to wait for the Trailblazer megaships2 to arrive - both for the extra support they will (hopefully) provide & by then most major bugs should be fixed. Expect a full post once I have got underway!

#2: Gutamaya Corsair

Not to be confused with the gaming technology brand3, the Gutamaya Corsair is a new multi-role medium ship (FINALLY!) from the Imperials. Its... quite a bold design, and looks rather like a fighter jet crossed with a ramming thingy4.

It also will be the first medium to support size 7 thrusters, so promises to be really fast. Not just fast, but buckyball fast5! This may even replace the Mandalay for my 'daily driver' ship, but we will have to see.

#3: Vanguard

And last, but by no means least, we have Vanguard. This is posed as a 'All we wanted to do with squadrons' feature, but almost all of the details are being kept tightly under wraps.

All we know so far is that there may be a Ships/Modules/Credits sharing feature, and that they are aiming to make it easier to communicate in-game, negating the need for Discord.

I shall avoid speculating too much, as my speculation so far has been spectacularly wrong. Here are my guesses as to what it isn't though:
